Wolfram M. Von-Maszewski
Avocational Historian

Wolfram M. Von-Maszewski was born and raised in Europe. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a B.A. and a M.A. degree in anthropology. He worked in the oil field-related industry until the industry collapsed in the 1980s. Hired by the George Memorial Library, he worked there as Manager of the Genealogy and Local History Department until his retirement. During this time he was a member of the Rosenberg Rotary, is a Paul Harris Fellow, and a Major Donor. An avocational historian, he translated and published three accounts of early (1840s) German travelers in Texas, the history of an almost forgotten German Mennonite settlement in Fort Bend County and recently the history of a company in Waul’s Texas Legion (Civil War). This history is based on translated letters and diaries by members of this company. These soldiers, from captain to the last private were German-Texans. Since his retirement, Von-Maszewski has traveled extensively to Japan, the Kamchatka Peninsula, the Aleutian Islands, and repeatedly to the interior of Alaska, including Barrow on the Arctic Ocean. His most recent trips were to Cuba and China.
