Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Gary has been a Houstonian since 1989, having been recruited here as Vice president of Franchise Sales for Wicks & Sticks and specifically, Wallpapers to Go.

He joined the entrepreneurial world in 1993 when he purchased a Management Recruiters franchise and for 26 years has managed his business and recruited engineers and sales engineers for the food equipment industry.

Gary and his wife, Nikki, are active members of Northwoods Presbyterian Church. Through the church, Gary became involved with Habitat for humanity of Northwest Harris County and has remained a steady volunteer for 25 years.  During that time, he served on the board of directors, two terms as president, co-chaired the construction committee and currently is involved with land acquisition. He volunteered as a crew member on the Tall Ship Elissa in Galveston for 13 years.

Gary became aware of Sleep in Heavenly Peace though “Returning the Favor,” a Facebook Live presentation by Mike Rowe. After a rather brief discussion with Nikki, they decided that forming a chapter in Northwest Houston was the right thing for them to do.

Along with many of his church and Habitat friends, they have set up shop at TheMET Church to produce bunkbeds to get kids off the floor in our town…

Since August 18 of last year, the SHP team of volunteers has built and delivered 397 beds in the area between 610 North and the North Harris County line and between SH 249 and SH 59.
