Periodically, the Rotary Club of Richmond asks all members to participate in a collective meeting to discuss matters that impact our entire club. On Tuesday, January 27th, during our regular 12:00 noon lunch meeting at the Morton Masonic Lodge, we will hold an open discussion focused on the Pecan Harvest Festival, our community event and annual fundraiser.
After three years of hosting the PHF, it is time to evaluate its purpose, its contributions to our community, and its value to our club. This conversation will help us determine whether the festival continues to align with our goals and expectations, and to assess our members’ interest and commitment as we consider the future of the event.

Please make plans to join us for this very special and important meeting.

As this Club Assembly may increase normal member attendance and the number of meals ordered, we ask that you register for this meeting and advise us (in the comments section) if you want to have a meal available for you.

Justin Moehn is a dedicated Data Entry Clerk with six years of experience at BlueSprig. He was diagnosed with autism in 1985 at Texas Children’s Hospital, and over the years he has become a committed self‑advocate for the autism community. Justin regularly presents at events for organizations, businesses, and community groups, focusing on general autism resources and, more recently, introductory job‑skills training.

In 2019, Justin received an advocacy award from The Arc of Fort Bend County in recognition of his contributions. Justin graduated from  Austin High School in 2001 and continued his education at Wharton County Junior College, earning certifications in PC Technical Support and Office Administration.

Justin has also collaborated with law enforcement by sharing information and insights from his presentations to support awareness and understanding of individuals with autism.

In 2021 Keith Elder retired from the company that he built from the ground up. The company had unrivaled real-time wireless seismic technology. The French company, Total, became an investor in Wireless Seismic Inc. (WSI) in 2014. WSI was approached by Total to be part of a team dedicated to the design of a revolutionary system to do oil exploration in an extreme environment. It was launched in the jungle of Papua New Guinea. Keith worked on this system for 5 years, innovating sensor technology for deployment from drones.His company developed specialized RF technology for use in a jungle environment.

Keith joined WSI as the VP of Engineering in 2007 with 30 years of seismic industry experience. WSI sold their first commercial system in 2012. Prior to joining WSI, Keith worked for a Houston based company, Input/Output, Inc. for 18 years where he held several management and engineering positions. He provided technical leadership in the development of several of Input/Output’s cable and wireless systems. Keith spent the remainder of his seismic career in field service and management for several geophysical contractors. Keith holds numerous patents related to the application of seismic instrumentation. Keith is a graduate from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Electronic Engineering.

Rotary Club of Richmond TX will prepare and host a dinner for the women and children at the Ft Bend Women's Center on Wednesday, February 11th. Volunteers interested in participating to serve meals and host the women and children need to contact Rotarian Karen Bell at 281-818-0543.

Join us to perform our community service activity to prepare 100 sandwich bagged meals for the kids of Nery's Promise on Tuesday, February 17th from 12noon to 1:00pm at our regular club lunch meeting.

The theme of the Gala is focusing on Polio Plus. Andrew Stein from the Gates Foundation will share his knowledge on how we END Polio, and also a tped interview with the last living iron lung user. We will have an actual iron lung on hand.

On Saturday, February 21st will be conduct a Memebership ROTARY 101 Orientation and Club History program for  ALL members. We have had several new members in the past several months and many members do not know about the history of the Richmond Club since it was begun in April 1936. Join us for this interesting program on Saturday, February 21st, beginning at 9:00AM at the Morton Masonic Lodge.

With more than 20 years of nonprofit experience in Fort Bend County, Melissa has built a career focused on service, relationship-building, and strengthening the connections that allow communities to succeed.

Known for a passion for bringing people and organizations together, Melissa believes meaningful progress happens when partnerships are built with purpose. In this role, Melissa is dedicated to supporting Chamber members, elevating local leadership, and fostering opportunities that help Fort Bend County businesses and communities thrive.

Melissa lives in Needville with her husband and two daughters and is proud to call Fort Bend County home.

Richmond Rotarian Joe Rangel with Allegiance Roofing will discuss roof repairs caused by hail, hurricanes, winds and aging from time. Joe will discuss how pricing for repairs are determined and variances by roofing companies as well as the process of payments and reimbursements from insurance companies. This will a be a great introductory discussion about residential roofing and what you should know and the process. Courtney Long insurance agent with Leavitt Group Texas Select, and Jamie Martin. real estate agent with Compass in Katy, Texas will  provide their insights from an insurance  and property management perspectives.

In 2024 the Texas State Board of Insurance made changes to homeowners insurance by putting limits on roofs over 15 years old. Most homeowners are unfamilar with the changes and how it impacts them. Joe wiil help address this issue too.

Joe Rangel is a lifelong resident of Fort Bend County, and  the owner of Allegiance Roofing & Contracting Services with 22 years in the Roofing Industry. Alleegience Roofing is certified through Certainteed as a Certainteed Shingle Master Applicator and Certainteed Select Shingle Master. Joe brings a wealth of knowledge of the roofing industry to his clients more as an educator than just being a salesman. He prides himself on customer service to his clients. His company is a member of the BBB with an A+ rating. which is based in Richmond, TX, servicing the entire Houston Metro Area of Harris County and all surrounding counties that border it and then some. He is also a Proud Fellow Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Richmond.

Courtney Long is an Account Executive Sales Representative at Leavitt Group Texas Select, and an insurance agent /broker of 25 years. Her goal is to go above and beyond to provide invaluable services to her clients, making sure their insurance needs are not just met, but exceeded. Behind the scenes, Sheis a mom of 4 beautiful daughters, ranging from 8 years old to 29 years old, and a grandmother to 3 fantastic grandsons. Courtney loves to volunteer within the community on a regular basis, garden, and her biggest joy is spending time with her family.
She has a dedication to creating a positive experience in the home purchasing journey. She believes that a satisfied client is the ultimate measure of success. From Awareness to Action: Rotary’s Role in Fort Bend County

Human trafficking is not a distant issue: it impacts communities across Fort Bend County and the greater Houston region. This update will give Rotarians a clear, practical look at what’s happening locally: how law enforcement identifies and investigates trafficking, what victim service providers need most when someone is ready for help, and why collaboration is the difference between a missed opportunity and a successful recovery.

Rotarians will hear how District 5890 is helping strengthen the response through community partnerships, survivor-informed support, and resource-building that helps both sides of the work, public safety and care. Most importantly, this talk moves beyond awareness into action. Attendees will leave with specific ways Rotary clubs can help right now: supporting survivor-centered services, building pathways to employment and housing, equipping providers with basic needs resources, and using Rotary’s influence to expand training and prevention across schools, faith spaces, and community organizations.

This is a hopeful update rooted in real work where Fort Bend is building stronger systems, and District 5890 is uniquely positioned to be a force multiplier for both law enforcement and victim service partners.

Rhonda Kuykendall, MSW, is a survivor leader, speaker, consultant, and legislative advocate. She works with the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office and United Against Human Trafficking as the Task Force Director for the Fort Bend Anti-Trafficking Collective. Previously, she served as the Anti-Child Trafficking Consultant for Texas CASA, where she authored anti-trafficking protocols across CASA programs statewide. Rhonda serves on the Survivor Advisory Board for the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault and is a member of the Governor's Texas Human Trafficking Survivor Leader Council. She chairs the Legislative Advocacy Team on the Board of Directors for Child Advocates of Fort Bend. Rhonda received the 2023 Paul H. Chapman National Award from the Foundation for the Improvement of Justice. In 2024, she was honored with the University of Houston-Downtown’s College of Public Service Social Work Person of the Year award. She also received the 2015 U.S. Congressional Medal for her efforts in Austin to enact legislation protecting children from sexual assault.  

Tuesday, March 17th from 12noon to 1PM at Morton Masonic Lodge will be our club's service project to make 100 sandwich bags for the Nery's Promise kids  for therTuesday evening meeting.

Chief Raymond Garivey Jr. is the dedicated Chief of Police for Kemah, Texas, bringing over 34 years of comprehensive law enforcement experience to the role. His career began as a patrol officer, where he quickly developed a strong commitment to public service and community engagement. Over the years, Chief Garivey has held various positions, including Gang Task Force/Narcotics Detective, Hostage Negotiator, which have equipped him with a deep understanding of the complexities of policing and community dynamics.

Chief Garivey is passionate about community policing, believing that strong relationships between law enforcement and the community are essential for safety and trust. He has implemented innovative programs that encourage collaboration with residents, schools, and local organizations, fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility for community well-being. His approachable leadership style has made him a trusted figure among citizens, who appreciate his commitment to transparency and proactive communication.

Chief Garivey is particularly focused on addressing local issues such as crime prevention, youth outreach, and mental health awareness. He actively promotes training for officers in de-escalation techniques and cultural competency, ensuring that the Kemah Police Department is equipped to serve a diverse community with respect and understanding.

As such he has been awarded the 100 Club Officer of the Year, Brazoria County Peace Officer of the Year, The Blues Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award, NYPD Hispanic Society Inspiration Award, Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas Community Builder Award, Guardian of Hope Award, and a host of other awards and accomplishments.

Beyond his professional duties, Chief Garivey is a dedicated family man and enjoys spending time with his loved ones. He believes in the importance of giving back to the community and participates in various charitable initiatives and local events.

As he continues to lead the Kemah Police Department, Raymond Garivey Jr. remains steadfast in his mission to doing God’s work, create a safe, inclusive, and thriving community for all residents.

The "Shady Boys", Silas, Weston, Cristian S. and Christian D., students of Shady Oak Primary School are thrilled to share their Bazzar journey with the Rotary Club of Richmond.

With enthusiasm and purpose, these young entrepreneurs will walk you through their Bazzar preparation strategies and the powerful "why" behind hosting this incredible event. From the brainstorming and budgeting to marketing and leadership, they will share the real-world skills they've developed and the lessons that extended far beyond the classroom. 

The Shady Oak Bazzar will be at The Blockhouse Coffee & Kitchen on May 3rd from 12:00-4:00PM. This student-led marketplace is more than a community event - it's a hands-on learning experience designed to build confidence, financial literacy, creativity, and long-term thinking. Shady Oaks students don't just host a bazzar; they step into ownership, responsibility, and vision for their future..

In fact, many of the school's alumni return year after year, sharing that the Bazzar remains one of their most meaningful and memorable experiences.

Join us for this lunch meeting program and learn from these inspiring young leaders and see firsthand the process they've embracced to maximize this opportunity - any lay a foundation for future financial freedom.

Save the Date and join us as Private Investigator Wayne Dolcefino provides us with an update on what he has been working on since his last visit. Wayne has always provided great stories and insight on the "Going On's" in local and Texas polictics and other adventures. This time, we are sure he will be equally entertaining and straightforward as only Wayne can deliver.

Eilean Mackenzie PhD, LPC is a therapist, mental health advocate, and suicide loss survivor.  She has worked at Texana Behavioral Health for the past 15 years. In 2014 she opened and still manages the Texana, adult, Mental Health Crisis Center. She brings together over 30 years of personal and professional experiences in the mental health field to provide education, advocacy and support to those who have family members and/or friends who struggle with mental health issues and thoughts of suicide.  She is on the Advisory board to the Ft Bend Club House, Chairperson on the board for Crossroads Villas, and on the Texas Council, Crisis Special Interest Group. 

When not advocating for those in need she finds time to work in her garden, take care of 3 rescue horses, a donkey, 4 dogs, cats, and a handful of chickens. She has travelled extensively; is an avid hiker and outdoors woman.

Dr Mackenzie will share some of her personal journey working to break the silence about suicide and it’s impact on families.

Rotary Club members are challenged to speak up and ASK about suicide when they see someone struggling. Information will be shared on how to provide support and access resources.

She will share information on Texana’s mobile crisis outreach team and the services the Texana Crisis Center provides to those less fortunate in our community.

Operation Salvation, a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering disabled veterans through a woodworking program that promotes healing, skill development, and community connection. Founded to address the need for non-clinical pathways to mental wellness and reintegration, Operation Salvation provides hands-on woodworking experiences that build confidence, foster camaraderie, and support emotional resilience.

Richard H. King is the Co-founder of Operation Salvation, a nonprofit that helps disabled veterans heal and reconnect through woodworking and community. Inspired by the loss of his veteran brother to suicide, Richard is committed to creating programs that provide purpose, skill development, and support for those who have served.

Richard H. King joined the U.S. Air Force in 1991, served 4 years and during that time was awarded the Gulf War ribbon, National Service Defense ribbon for support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm, crew chief on an F-16 Fighting Falcon, married for 26 years has 3 children and 2 grandchildren.

Presenting with Richard is Adrian A. Ramos a native Texan, a graduate of Texas A&M University, and a 10-year U.S. Army veteran. He retired in 2025 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Professional Engineer and now serves with Operation Salvation, where he helps lead woodworking programs that use craftsmanship as a form of therapeutic mentorship and personal growth.

Daniel Sample has been interested in history since middle school when he had an excellent history teacher. He would occasionally go with his father to the library for some genealogy research or attend genealogy class. Daniel grew up in Fort Worth and got his BA in history at Texas Tech in Lubbock. He later got his Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas. Daniel got a job with the Houston Public Library Central location where he crossed trained for six weeks at the Clayton Genealogical Library. After almost 10 years he moved to Fort Bend and was hired at the George Memorial Library. Rotary Club of Richmond will conduct a community service project to serve popcorn to attedees at the City of Richmond's Movie Night at Wessendorff  on the evening of Friday, June 5th. The Dinsey Movie "Luca" will start about 8:30pm.

Lacie Chambers serves as Executive Director of the Development Corporation of Richmond (DCR), where she leads the City’s efforts to foster economic growth, attract investment, and strengthen Richmond’s role as a collaborative community partner. She brings more than 30 years of experience spanning business development, project management, fundraising, healthcare innovation, and political strategy.
A graduate of Texas A&M University, Chambers has built a career defined by strategic vision and relationship-driven leadership. In 2022, she returned to project-centered consulting and founded Impact Opportunities, partnering with public entities, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to design and execute comprehensive strategies for growth and community impact. Her work emphasized project management, fundraising, marketing, and stakeholder engagement—aligning established and emerging relationships to deliver measurable outcomes.
Her professional journey includes co-founding and managing multiple healthcare and biotechnology ventures, including Meridian Health Institute, the Texas Center for Regenerative Medicine, and Meridian Diagnostics (Dx). For nearly two decades, she served as Managing Partner and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing operations, budgets, and growth strategies while advancing innovative technologies such as stem cell therapy and salivary diagnostics.
Drawing on her background in public policy and fundraising, Chambers brings a beneficial perspective to economic development—bridging government, business, and community priorities. She spent 16 years in Washington, D.C., raising millions of dollars for political and nonprofit organizations while working closely with corporate leaders, major donors, and policymakers. Her previous roles include Finance Director for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), Deputy Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell (R-GA), District Director for U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX) as well as senior positions with the Republican National Committee (RNC) and National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).
Ms. Chambers is widely respected for her commitment to excellence and integrity while forging trusted partnerships and delivering positive outcomes for the organizations and communities she serves.

Our regular lunch service activity to make sandwiches for Nery's Promise kids has been cancelled and replaced by our club's 2026-27 Officer Installation and a celebration of our club's 90th anniversary of our first meeting on April 23, 1936. See our calendar for additional information.

The first meeting of  the Rotary Club of Richmond Texas was held on Tuesday, April 23, 1936. In recognition of this achievement the Club will host a 90 yeras Anniversary celebration to salute and commemorate the founding members, welcome past members,  current members and guests  to Tina's Mexican Grill and Cantina for fellowship with stories and rememberances of past and present members. Joe Freudenberger is the Chief Executive Officer of OakBend Medical Center, a $1 billion, three hospital, independent, non-profit, community hospital system serving Fort Bend County and surrounding areas.  After completing his M.B.A. in finance at the A. B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, Joe began his career in healthcare, spending 10 years with Deloitte Consulting working with major healthcare systems around the country to improve their business operations, 11 years as CFO for two different hospitals and the last 17 years as CEO for OakBend.

By shifting OakBend’s strategy to focus on service excellence, new services, community engagement, targeted marketing, physician engagement, unique partner models and financial prudence, Joe and his team have transformed OakBend Medical Center into a growing, quality local choice for healthcare in Fort Bend County and surrounding areas. Joe is a recipient of the 2018 Houston Business Journal’s Most Admired Nonprofit CEO and the winner of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® for the Gulf Coast Region in Healthcare in 2017.

The June 2nd Club Assembly addressed many organizational issues, specifically increasing Member's annual dues from $395 to $450 per year, effective July 1, 2026. Discussion about our 2026 - 2027 clubs financial and community giving plans and objectives, lead to a consenus of members present to continue our discussion and action plans by conducting another Club Assembly on June 30, 2026. Members supported having additional discussions and the establishment of the following working Committees: 

• Bylaws Review Committee
• Club Visioning Committee

This Club Assembly meeting will continue discussions to address:

1) Fundraising activities: Turkey Leg Booth at the Fair, the Pecan Harvest Festival and other fundraising opportunities.

2)  Membership participation club meetings, service and fundraising activities, committees to support club goals and objectives.

Central Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce will be highlighting the Rotary Club of Richmond Texas at the July 7th Breakfast in the Bend event at Black Hawk Country Club , 12610 FM 1464, Richmond, TX77407 from 8:30AM to 10:00AM. 

The CFBCC's Breakfast in the Bend monthly events invite Chamber members to gather at a member hosted location in fellowship and highlight an area nonprofit. The Rotary Club of Richmond is proud to be selected for July and Club President Wagas Kurjee will lead a small group of Richmond Rotarians who are eager to share Rotary's history, purpose and its support provided to our community since its founding in 1936, now celebrating its 90th Anniversary.

Pecan Harvest Festival, Event Coordinator , Larry Pittman, along with other Richmond Club members, and PHF Sponsor - City Of Richmond and Develepment Corporation of Richmond representatives, will be in attendance to congratualte Mercy Goods.

Mercy Goods exists to create equitable employment, job-training 
and mentorship opportunities for at-risk youth IN FORT BEND COUNTY. We do this by designing and building custom furniture and other home goods.

Born from the collaboration of local churches, our mission has always been to feed the hungry, clothe the vulnerable, and provide essential services to those in need.

THe Pecan Harvest Festival is pleased to conduct a donation ceremony to Fort Bend Seriors Meals on Wheels to support its service objectives to our community. 

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals, social connection, and supportive services that help older adults stay healthy, independent, and engaged in their community. Serving Fort Bend and Waller counties for over 50 years, we support thousands of seniors each year through meals, senior centers, transportation, and outreach program.

Reining Strength Therapeutic Horsemanship is a Premier Accredited Center through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH Intl.), and provides equine-assisted services for people ages 2 and up - children and adults - who have physical, cognitive, social, or emotional needs. 

The Pecan Harvest Festival will conduct a donation ceremony to support the Preston St Community Gardens efforts in the Richmond Community. Please join us for a brief donation ceremony and provide thanks to the voluunteers who work so hard to grow the plants and maintain the gardens for for our community.

The Preston Street Community Garden was founded by Calvary Episcopal Church in 2008. The purpose is to serve the needs of the community of North Richmond and to educate and involve the community in growing fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables. The garden is under the management of the Friends of North Richmond and Calvary, with support from First Baptist Church, Richmond.

There are four table beds, 29 raised beds and eight large community production beds.  Fresh produce from fall and spring plantings in the community beds is donated to Helping Hands and the Women's Shelter.  In addition, there is an adjacent Bell Garden that can be used for social gatherings or for meditation.  It contains beautiful seasonal flowers, trees and shrubs, a fountain, an altar, an antique bell and two memorial benches.
